Dalvin Cook is now participating in team drills, and is aiming to be on the field Week 1. Cook was more than capable of handling the 3-down workhorse role given to him as a rookie last season, and we are all hoping for the same, especially after considering his late 1st, early 2nd round ADP.

For that role, I’d happily pay that price. But will he have the same role? He’ll be the starter, sure, but because of the injury, it’s very possible that Latavius Murray cuts into his work more than the consensus thinks he will. Murray did do a good job as the 1a once Cook went down. Keep in mind that when Cook won a the job last offseason, Murray was still recovering from ankle surgery. We’ll never truly know whether Murray would have cut into the load once he was fully healthy.

Cook is clearly the more talented back, and can resume as the workhorse, but it’s no guarantee. I would love to see him get work in the preseason to at least give us an idea of the split. I can’t buy him at his current price on blind faith, so will likely look elsewhere at the 1-2 turn if the questions remain. Let’s hope he’s a full go in training camp and in preseason so his workhorse status becomes clear.
