Here are how Greg Roman’s rushing offenses finished:

SF 2011: 4th in attempts as OC, 7th in rushing

SF 2012: 5th in attempts as OC, 3rd in rushing

SF 2013 – 3rd in attempts as OC, 3rd in rushing

SF 2014 – 9th in attempts as OC, 4th in rushing

BUF 2015 – 2nd in attempts as OC, 1st in rushing

BUF 2016 – 2nd in attempts as OC, 1st in rushing

BAL 2017 – 7th in attempts as run game coordinator, 11th in rushing

BAL 2018 – 1st in attempts as run game coordinator, 2nd in rushing

I would call that being successful and relentless at running the ball.

Roman has had success running the ball on offenses with rushing QBs in the past like Colin Kaepernick and Tyrod Taylor. As you can see, his offenses have never finished outside the top-10 in rushing attempts, and it’s a huge staple of his philosophy.

After taking over as the run game coordinator in 2017, the Ravens went from 27th in rushing the year prior to 11th with a practice squad player in Alex Collins. He then had an undrafted rookie free agent Gus Edwards contribute to the 2nd best rushing team last year, with him averaging 93.4 rushing yards per game as the main ball carrier.

Now that he has another dangerous rushing QB in Lamar Jackson along with the best RB he’s had over the past two seasons, he has personnel that fits perfectly into the experience he’s had as an OC. The continuity in the run scheme will also prove valuable, as this will be the third straight year they’ll be running it, but this time he’ll be calling the plays.

Frank Gore and LeSean McCoy were both workhorses in SF and Buffalo, respectively, with Roman as their OC. While receiving ability isn’t the most important attribute for a Roman RB, the versatility definitely helps, as we saw with Shady averaging 3 receptions per game in his two pertinent seasons.

Ingram should be able to average at least 15-20 touches per game, and his end of 3rd round ADP is as safe as it comes at RB. If I’m looking for a solid RB2 after picking a RB and WR in the first two rounds, I’m hoping Ingram is still on the board with my third pick.

Happy with Ingram as your RB2? Let me know! 👇
