It’s hardly surprising considering that the game last night was being played in a legitimate blizzard – and that the field was essentially a hockey rink where no players were able to get any kind of traction in their cuts. McCaffrey was ruled out officially at halftime but spent the majority of the first half on the sideline after racking up 67 yards on ten opportunities before his exit. 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan reported after the game that it’s a PCL injury for McCaffrey, and it’s hard to imagine that he’ll be making a return any time over the course of the rest of the season. Regardless, Jordan Mason took over the primary duties in the ground game in relief of McCaffrey and is once again back on the radar as a fringe fantasy RB1 as long as CMC is out. With favorable matchups on tap over the course of the next three weeks against the Bears, Rams, and Dolphins, he could be a league-winning handcuff down the stretch if he returns to the same full-time role he enjoyed to open the season. Isaac Guerendo also got some run last night given the game script and injury to McCaffrey, though he’s nothing more than a longshot handcuff at this point – especially on an offense that’s struggling like the 49ers have been recently.
